Established in collaboration with ITC WelcomeGroup, the college has been securing a majority of the top university rankings over the years. Ranked as the Number One Hotel Management College during the years 2008/2009, 2007/ 2008 and 2006/2007, as per the survey conducted by the Global Human Resources Development Corporation on behalf of the Competition Success Review.

WGSHA has been ranked as the premiere Hotel Management institute in India. The faculty members are well versed in their specialised fields, with relevant industry experience and have the required teaching experience.

The college has a running 70-room Fortune Brand Welcomgroup Hotel for the students' on-the-job training experience. It has three kitchen labs, bakery confectionery, butchery and garde-manger rooms. It also includes housekeeping and front office labs, an audio-visual room, a vast library, PG Faculty Research Cell, a computer lab and hostels with recreational and dining facilities.

Careers/Placements
Graduates have found positions in hotel chains (Welcomgroup, Taj, Leela, Holiday Inn, Le Méridien), airlines (KLM, British Airways, Gulf Air, Singapore Airlines), travel agencies (Sita Travels, Thomas Cook) and other organisations such as Citibank, Blue Dart Couriers, GE Capital and International Services.
