About Dept of Commerce
The Dept of Commerce’s BBM (e-Banking & Finance) Programme is the first of its kind in India, catering to the needs of the evergreen Banking & Financial sector.
For the first time in the country (for an undergraduate programme), a new initiative, “Learn by Experience”, has been adopted by the Department of Commerce, where BBM [e-Banking & Finance] students, after completion of their first semester studies, are placed (on option) for hands-on practical experience (during their vacation period) with major banks, including Foreign Banks in India and abroad.
(These banks include HSBC, Standard Chartered, Barclays, BNP Paribas, Bank Muscat, Diamond Trust Bank, ING Vysya, Axis, Bank of India, Corporation Bank, Punjab National, HDFC, Oriental Bank of Commerce, State Bank of India, UCO Bank, United Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra, South Indian Bank, UTI Asset Management Co., etc.)
This exercise gives the students the required exposure to the real-time work experience in the banks/FIs, which in turn would give them the edge over others while scouting for placement or seeking admission in reputed B-Schools for higher studies across the globe. All the banks have invariably appreciated the level of knowledge of our students and their practical contribution.
Careers/Placements
Long-term career prospects in e-Banking & Finance are excellent, as India is poised to become one of the largest economies in the world. Since the fundamentals of our economy are very strong, experts estimate India to sustain the economic growth. Besides, India is one of the most preferred destinations for investment by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs). Banking and Finance remain the lifeline of the Indian economy and therefore, the future of this stream is certainly very bright.
